Pastel Painting: “Cottonwood Strong”

Hello and welcome back!

As promised, today I am bringing you my most recent pastel painting based on a reference photograph I took near my home.

I am calling it “Cottonwood Strong” because cottonwood trees grow FAST and provide lovely shade even where they are the solitary tree as in this landscape!

In the photo below you can see the thumbnail I created.

You can also see I prepared a piece of Pastel Premiere sanded paper with an acrylic ink underpainting in warm colors. I wanted a complimentary color underneath all the green I saw in the reference photo.

A Furry Surprise :)

Hi everyone!

I hope your summer is going well. Mine has been pretty busy so far….

First, we didn’t finish up our homeschooling year till the end of May. This might sound early for some people, but we are used to getting done around the beginning of May!

Then we took a mini-vacation/road trip to visit “Conner Prairie” in Fishers, Indiana—a fun, educational, and interactive 19th century living history site. They have an on-site blacksmith, pottery shop, petting barn, tethered hot air balloon ride, and more!

If you haven’t been there, plan your trip for October when their Apple Store is open—you can’t miss with their caramel apples and pumpkin donuts… 😉

After our vacation, we took another road trip where we fell in love with and brought home the newest member of our family….

…a fuzzy bundle of love, energy, and mischief….

……Goldendoodle and snuggler extraordinaire….

CALLIE!!!!

Callie

We waited a while to get another dog after losing our lab, Lunker. But it was time to get more doggy kisses in our humdrum life! (Did I mention she likes to snuggle????)

Hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into our lives.

Next time, I promise to post actual art!!!

Bye for now,

~R
